Part II of the travel post.
5. Vilnius - London - Oxford (31st March)
On my way out. Another nasty bit of shock at the customs. The guy demanded for my visa. Where is your visa? HELLO, if i didn't need a visa to get in, why do i need one to get out now? Shit. A cold shiver went down my spine, when he failed to understand my ' I don't need a visa' spiel. More staring. Then he rang someone up. Then he stamped my passport. Gah. No apologies. Whatever. I said 'Thanks'. Great ending huh. We had smoked salmon as appetiser on the flight - kind of rekindled my craving for those in bagels. OK.. maybe i should splurge and get some!
Landed in London and took the Gatwick express into Central London. Then, i just had to satisfy my Cornish pasty craving. YUM. Haven't had them in months. I should find out the recipe - alas, baking pastries.. difficult. Cornish pasties... sigh... Then on the bus to oxford. Long ride, huge jams (evening peak hour).
6. Oxford - London - Oxford (1st April)
London day. Went down to London to meet up with friends studying at Cambridge at the moment. Turned into quite an eating event. First had Dim Sum at 4pm in Chinatown with anuphon, my classmate from part2 last year. Pretty good stuff. Cheap too. 12 pounds for tons of Dim Sum. Evident that i am treating 12 pounds as 12, and not 36. HAHA... of course.
Then, we had dinner at Pizza Express, this chain of Italian pizza place at 7pm. Eat and eat. We had to catch a show at 7.45pm, so we had little time to spare. Yifan (whom we met at 6.30pm minus anuphon), was hungry, so we went in search for dinner. Settling for Pizza Express, because there was no line. OK, it was packed, but at least no line. Then, we ordered a 1/2 bottle of Pinot Gris (alas.. the wait staff brought us 1 bottle). NOW, only yifan and I drink, WJ abstains... so 1 bottle of white in 30 mins. Glass upon glass. HAHA.. luckily the wine wasn't strong.. so def. 30 mins bingeing material. Of course we finished dinner post 7.45pm and were late for "Blood Brothers" - a musical in the West End. The usher brought us in a bit late, and we got into our seats - a little squishy. Good show though. OLD.. been running since the late 80s. Hence the plot felt dated, but i'm pretty sure it was modern for its times.
7. Oxford - London - Washington D.C. - San Francisco - Stanford (3rd April)
Last day to get back. This was 1 hell of a day from start to end - all 25 hours of it. Left oxford at 6.30am on the airport coach to heathrow. And arrived back in my room at 11.30pm (pacific, i.e. 7.30am UK). The time difference jumping all around, i missed lunch and dinner. And i had no idea. All zoned out.
This is pretty much an exciting adventure, so i'm going to leave it for another post.
