Gosh, the adapted screenplay for the movie 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe' does differ from the book in certain parts. Hmm, the book is definitely less jazzed up than the screen version.

It just crossed my mind to dig out my all-time favourite piece of scientific writing. After a quick search on SciSearch, i found it!

Mack, R.N. et al (2000) Biotic invasions: Causes, epidemiology, global consequences, and control. Ecol. App. 10, 689-710.

It's a review article about invasive species. A really good read. At the end of it all, i start thinking... am i mol/cell, organismal or eco/evo. I suppose i'm most comfortable in areas that span across the gulf - haha... i'm definitely not a hardcore mol/cell nor eco/evo scientist. I'll puke if you box me in like that.

Which is why i definitely enjoyed my lab last year - it was mol-based (given the expt. techniques), but it spans into physiology and ecology - Looking at the RbcS gene in C3 Cleome spinosa and C4 Cleome gynandra.

Oh Yes. Kudos to the writers on Grey's Anatomy for the poison oak shout-out! See. Always look where you pee. Don't pee over poison oak or for that matter poison ivy. Nettles aren't so bad, considering poison oak. And yes, allergy to cashews/mangoes/walnuts definitely means you'll be hypersensitive to poison oak. This reminds me of primary school science. Poisonous plants - dumbcane anyone? PONG PONG! Lantana. Frangipani. Ha... why wasn't secondary science like that? Too focussed on mol/cell. Bad idea.

Campaigning for sharks when corals are dying. Demise of top-level predators usually haven't a greater impact on the community than demise of the building blocks. The corals off the coast of Singapore, people. They are dying.
