Following record breaking warmth last week (records tumbled for 8th and 9th Feb 2006, when the daytime maximumm high climbed to 22 and 23 degrees Celsius respectively - this is late winter, mind you), we are looking set to plunge right down into below average temperatures this week, looking set to break record lows. The coldest plunge of arctic air this winter is descending from the Gulf of Alaska, working its way down south.
It's definitely noticeably nippier today than yesterday. You could feel the cold 'raw' north wind, still not biting, but definitely cold. Here comes the cold air flooding down... frost should make a comeback, it's really a prettier sight than snow. Coz it's so ephemeral, and nearly impossible to take a good photo of. Plus, none of that post-snow black slushy mixture. Sun comes out, wham, frost gone. Clearly, this favours the early-wakers. Haha...
Saw Magnolias blooming. Oh dear, they must have been tricked by the heat. The flowers might be killed off this week. By Bay Area standards, it should be around mid 50s (10-15 deg C) daytime this time of year, but we could be looking at 40s (5-10 deg C) this coming week for daytime highs. Oh well, as long as the sun is shining, i don't mind the cold.
