This is really interesting. Why is Singapore in the 'Wrong' Time zone?

We are currently on +8 from Greenwich Median Time (GMT), which roughly translates to a sunrise time of around 7am (+/- 20 mins) and a sunset time of around 7pm (+/- 20 mins). Yet, if we look at our longitudinal co-ordinates, we should more rightly be +7. So in effect, we are one hour ahead, which is similar to Daylight Savings practised in many Northern hemisphere countries during the summer months. Of course, it still makes sense, considering that we are in perpetual summer.

Surprising that we were on +7.5 up till 1st January 1982. This - i am really surprised. The link takes you to a NUS Math Professor's site.
