Fungi, originally uploaded by Monty Elm.

Poking out of the pine needles (litter) are some fungal fruiting bodies. Probably no one would have noticed them by the kerb. Why did i spot them? I was looking for pine cones. And there they were. I'm guessing these Ascomycetes fruting bodies came from ectomycorrhizae growing beneath, in close contact with the pines. Plus there was just some rain recently, so they're taking the chance to fruit and disperse spores. Not quite sure whether they are edible or not. But i'm not about to pluck them for consumption.
