This just came into my mailbox. Group shot taken at Big Basin yesterday. We car-pooled from stanford; took us about 1.5 hours to get there. Long winding roads... nauseating. Was markedly cooler up the mountains, think it was at most low 50s when we got there, coz you could see your breath. That's my personal gauge anyway. When i can see my breath, it means the air temp is at least 10 deg C and below. Drove past small communities nestled in the hills. Scary. How do they navigate the winding road everyday. And they are not excatly very isolated, an hour away and they find themselves in the Bay Area, which is populated with people. So i cannot imagine life in even more isolated communities. Redwoods have really interesting ecology though.
