Did a campus conifer identification session today. Saw all three species of redwoods! Going to post photos if i take them. (Going to be so geeky looking, taking photos of trees in the middle of campus). The Metasequoia is going yellow nicely... it's the only deciduous redwood of the three. Once thought to be extinct, it was subequently discovered growing in the mountains of China. Anyway, really pleased that now i can tell the different groups of conifers apart. Firs from spruces. Pines from yews. Cypresses from cedars. They do look the same, but you need a discerning eye! I love conifers. They are my favourite group of plants. Who cares about flowers.

Giving me a great idea to post photos of lovely plants i spy in the area. Of course, i would need to id. them. BUT, i'm going to get hold of this book 'Trees of Stanford' which is a guide of the trees in the area, complete with locations. So cool.

Already have a guide to Singapore plants (thanks to HY), which was how i id. Erythrina. A lovely tree with bright red flowers. Unfortunately, the Erythrina at my void deck got chopped off recently. Diseased i think. OK, people must be beginning to think i'm going cuckoo. How can i write so much about plants? I'm definitely not the gardening type. I guess i'm more appreciative of them when they are sitting around (be it planted or wild). And not when i have to do the hard work of propagating them. That always seems to end up in failure.
