Day 3 - there should be lots to write about.
The flight was fine - although i regretted picking the oriental meal. All 3 meals were very similar to each other. Urgh. Substantial amounts too. There was lunch, dinner and breakfast. Granted it was an 18 hr flight, there was way too much food. And the idea of using icecream as dessert in every meal is questionable. Transit in Seoul, lovely new airport - Inch'on. Reminded me of Chek Lap Kok, HK. Clean, modernistic lines, brushed metals. Large signs in Korean, Japanese, Chinese and English. Very East-Asian.
Unfortunately there were 3 infants on that flight who were sitting in the row in front of me - the bulkhead row. Urgh - they were crying in alternate order during the flight. Grim. Never sitting in those rows again. Although getting off the plane was speedy, coz we were the 2nd row after the first/business class. Cattle class. What to do.
Seoul-SFO was also fine, managed to sleep quite a lot, coz was getting paranoid about my bloody right eye. Blood vessels had burst, resulting in redness. SO, decided to sleep it off. Watched NO movies (somehow i can't seem to enjoy them on the flight). Prefer watching TV shows, which are much shorter in length. Must have watched quite a number of TV progs. Played a bit of Mario (always die at the same level). Give up.
SFO was pretty. MUCH better than LHR. Customs was very speedy too. Lots of counters open. AGAIN, cf. LHR. Didn't have to open my bags up, so that was perfect. Cleared the entire customs in less than 15 mins. Took the shuttle (which again was fantastic) into Uni.
On to my new apartment. Hmm, i should have had lower expectations. It is a row of 4 units - single storeyed. Picture the old blocks in TCHS (colour scheme quite similar). Very dilapidated looking from the outside. I suppose it makes sense not to build upwards (Earthquake country). Potentially can set up BBQ on the porch. All very resort-feel (old style).
Inside is prettier! Living room is actually quite big, and kitchen is good! BIG fridge, with 2 compartments, OVEN, microwave. YAY! Decided not to get a kettle, since i can just zap my water hot. Bedroom is not huge, but of a good size. Prob. can fit 1 visitor. Storage space is not significant, but luckily i don' have much stuff anyway. Should perhaps explore the laundry room one day. Maybe i'll do more laundry this time round, COZ it's FOC.
Completed various admin tasks on Monday as well, really tired by the end of the day. Campus is sprawling. Had to rely on the MAP all the time to get to places. Yet, the map is not fantastic. Or rather, the layout is puzzling.
Spent quite a bit of $ already purchasing items. I just take them to be settling-in money. Sheesh. Tuesday was dept orientation. Really psyched about the course now. Will speak to potential academic advisor tomorrow to come up with my prog. proposal. Lala... before classes begin next week. May want to do some research next quarter.
Had free breakfast and lunch. Really healthy foods! And today we had a president's reception - more free food. He has a huge house, with a big lawn. Explored posh shopping area a bit too. Might return to do clothes shopping, although must wear a bit more poshly the next time. Ha.
Yah, there's probably more to add, but that's all i can think of at the moment. Will try to be more regular with my blogging.
