I have been spelling ferredoxin wrongly. Oh dear. hungs head down in shame. I have been spelling it as ferrOdoxin. Anyway, ferredoxin is an electron carrier in the electron transport chain in chloroplasts, for photosynthesis.

As of today, i have written 6 essays, 1 review and read x number of papers. Maybe i should sit down and count, but that's impossible. Orchid hybridisation - should we still tunnel our way through down that road? Pointless, i feel. Why are the people still fervently making hybrids? It's basically doing the same thing again and again, without any advancing in science. Instead, there should be channelling of resources into other aspects of orchid science, if orchids are that charming.

There's a lot to learn from these monocotyledonous beauties, for example, there is very tight co-evolution between orchids and their pollinators (primarily insects). Look at the Ophrys spp., how exquisite the flowers are patterend. Some mimic female bees, and entice male bees to copulate, which for the flower just means a transfer of its pollen onto the bee. Yaya! Understanding the development of the orchid flower may be more productive, than making endless hybrids, so that they can be presented to dignitaries.

People who don't garden, i expect.
Gardening is good.
