Chanced upon this book at Borders today. It's a collection of metro maps around the world, and highlights the design behind each metro map - the functionality and form which makes each map so appealing to look at. Aren't metro maps fascinating to look at? I love the way geometric lines and shapes play with the colours, and the black text. Simple, clean design. Part of the description for the Singapore's map was, 'behind the sterility of the design, the ingenuity of it leaps out as the metro lines are superimposed on a wavy S-shaped which represents the shape of the island.' OK, i paraphrased what he said.. can't quite recall word for word. But you get the idea.
