It's been another wet day here. Attended my first Russian class. It was surprising to learn that the course was oversubscribed.. well.. 50 applicants for 25 places.. well.. actually there were less than 25 places, they upped the number. And i was on that upped list.. if the number weren't upped, i wouldn't be in the class. So, i presume they feel that people who are learning Russian for the utility of it, is more important than people who are learning for the fun of it. Hmmph!
Здравствуйте! Меня зовут эрон. Как вас зовут?
Wonder if that came out good and nice? First words in russian.. we learnt the cyrillic script, not that hard once you get your head round it. And the russian pronunciation. Love some of the sounds, foreign to english... ah.... the joys.
Hmm, quite tiffed that David Mitchell's 'Cloud Atlas' was not awarded the Booker Prize 2004. It went to 'In the Line of Beauty' instead, a book set in the Thatcher 80s, Conservative MPs, and what not. Might give that book a shot after i complete Cloud Atlas, not long to go.
Still ploughing through paper after paper to do my essay on Phytoremediation. When will this ever stop? I guess i can make the call. If i want to stop, i can. But it's hard to stop when you know that there's so much more information out there, waiting to be read. This sounds highly academic-ish. But hasn't empiricism bought man time on this planet?
