Thought i will write about these two things today: Youthful capitalisation and Euphemisms. Let's start with euphemisms, slightly simpler to talk about. My (medical student) friends use the term 'CA' when referring to 'cancer'. So a conversation would go,"The woman has got stomach CA." Now, that is a brilliant euphemism. I wonder, is this a singapore thing or do all people in the medical community make use of this? CA sounds entirely docile, very harmless, comforting in fact.. reminds you of 'Continual Assessments' from school. We do like our tests, don't we?

As for youthful capitalisation, i came up with this odd-looking term when a stranger emphatically declared i cannot be a day older than 20, in fact i must only be 18. Well. She's very kind, isn't she? For i am not merely a day older than 20, but i am more than 500 days beyond 20. Many people like to keep their age a secret. Erm, miss, can i have only 1 candle for the cake? Yah, 1 candle enough already. Don't waste. I'm 25 this year, well actually, i'm 35, but you can't tell right? Even if you can, keep QUIET.

I hardly need to keep my age a secret. Quite the oppposite really. I need to reveal my age in order to get clearance... Are you sure you can buy tickets for a R(A) movie, son? It's fun capitalising on my youth, isn't it? While there may be some inconveniences today, isn't it fun when you turn 40, and people still think you are in your 20s?

OK, getting too self-absorbed here. Watched will and grace. It was a so-so episode, could have been much more, but i guess i shouldn't grouch about it. At least it's still entertaining. Still reading Anna Karenina, at part 2 now. Great book, by the way.

Oh go away ... people ask me how many kids I have! And to think that I'm actually 4 months younger than you. Oh, but I do have something interesting I'll be posting on my blog tonight. Quite sure it applies to both of us. Regarding youth, and jaded-ness.
