Auschwitz
Originally uploaded by Monty Elm.

Haven't put up my photo collections for a few days, so here's comes the next one. This was taken in April 03 at a place where i really wanted to visit. This is Oswiecim-Birkenau concentration camp in Poland, or better known as Auschwitz. I did a project on the Holocaust way back in 98, and we always had to 'steal' photos from online sources, since we didn't have the capacity to fly to Poland ourselves nor were digital cameras that readily available then. Were they already there in the first place? Well, in the photo, you can see quite clearly in the background the entrance to the camp. The railway line runs under the gatehouse into the centre of the camp, where the deportees disembark. Standing at the top of the gatehouse and looking down at the fields, knowing the history of this place, you would be affected.

Absolutely loved Meryl Streep and her winning speech in the Emmys today, "There are some days when even I myself feel that i'm overrated... but not today." The Emmys also had a section where they paid tribute to people in the TV industry who passed away during the year. Most of the names were unfamiliar to me, but there will come a point in time when most of the names would not be. Probably that's when you know your time's up.
