My blog is beginning to degenerate into a dowdy has-been.
She had style, she had flair, she was there, that's how she became the Nanny...
Golly, too much old-school TV : Bewitched and the Nanny are showing on the Hallmark channel now on weekdays 6-7pm. 2 great sitcoms of the 60s and 90s. A bit more 'self-absorbism' may help lift this blog up a bit.

Now, I have just completed reading a book by Guy Deutscher entitled 'The Unfolding of Language'. It's a academic-esque neophyte type of book. Picked up a few interesting things from it: he accounts for the development of language from a not so primitive 'Me Tarzan' stage, to something more complex 'I am Tarzan, who has two clubs, that are useful for fighting against tigers, that roam the jungle.'

Semitic languages have an unusual verb system. Semitic languages include modern Hebrew and Arabic. The verbs exist in their root form as 3 consonants. For e.g. s-l-m represents 'to make peace, to be peaceful'. And to form various forms of the verb, e.g. past tense, future tense, passive voice, you make use of different vowel templates. And that's how words such as Islam, Shalom, Solomon are produced, all stemming from the root s-l-m. Neat eh.

Many more verbal tidbits in the book. Shall save them for another time. Next up is a book by Jaroslav Hasek 'The Good Soldier Svejk'. An unfinished book by the author, written in the early 20th century on the exploits of Svejk during WWI. Here's hoping it's not another Catch-22 by J. Heller. That was a bit too challenging. Perhaps i chose a wrong time to read that book. Think it was in school. No time. Or rather, short bursts of time (on the bus) makes for stilted reading.

I will continue to post pictures of my travels in June, following the ones on Paris and Amsterdam. Just have to get down to doing them.
